(I’m not just talking about the movie- if Hades got a dollar every time a character in Kingdom Hearts said something along the lines of: “You tricked me, Hades!” or “That’s not fair, Hades!” he’d be able to build his own Mount Olympus. Maybe that’s why Zeus never saw that hostile takeover coming, or why so many other charcters keep getting tricked by him. His dry delivery doesn’t sound particularly evil, but Hades never has anyone’s best interests at heart. And while Nicholson probably would’ve sounded more menacing than Woods’ fast-talking version, I think this makes Woods’ performance a little bit more unnerving once Hades starts putting his plans into action. But I love Woods’ version so much that it’s hard to picture Hades with anyone else’s voice. I’m sure he would have done an amazing job. I have mixed feelings about that because this is Jack Nicholson we’re talking about. They really wanted Jack Nicholson for the role, but neither side could work out a contract agreement, so the deal fell through. Now, Woods wasn’t the first person that directors Ron Clements and John Musker had in mind for the role of Hades. He talks about being Lord of the Dead as if it was just a dead-end job at an office that he got stuck in- not fun, but hey, what can you do? Buy in monthly payments with Affirm on orders. Not that I’d want to relate to Hades, of course, but there are times when his cynical remarks speak for the audience. JAMES WOODS SIGNED AUTOGRAPHED FUNKO POP FIGURE HADES HERCULES BECKETT COA COLLECTIBLE MEMORABILIA. Woods’ droll sarcasm isn’t just hilarious- I think it makes Hades more relatable to people as a character. But that doesn’t mean I still don’t love Woods as Hades, because he is the best part of Disney’s Hercules and generally the best part of anything that involves the Disney version of Hercules. So, now we are down to my top two favorite voice actors/actresses for Disney villains! And behind Door #2 is…įor a long time, he was my absolute favorite then I thought about it some more and put someone else in slot #1. But it was fun and I liked how it gave me the chance to talk about different Disney movies that I haven’t really talked about yet, like The Emperor’s New Groove and The Great Mouse Detective. In addition to DeVito, Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell supported his fan-casting of Hades in the live-action film.Whew! We are almost done! In hindsight, I think this series of posts went on much longer than it should have, so I won’t be making a Top 10 list this extensive again. "If they don't put me in that they don't have a hair on their a-," he said. Despite the lack of information, DeVito is adamant about reprising his role in the remake. However, there has been no word on who will return from the animated film. Ritchie also previously directed the 2019 live-action adaptation of Disney's Aladdin. Sherlock Holmes' Guy Ritchie will direct the upcoming project. Woods has also lent his voice to other animated films, like Stuart Little 2 and Surf's Up.Īnnounced in April 2020, the Russo Brothers are producing a live-action remake of Disney's Hercules. Due to Nicholson's out-of-the-question salary request, Disney subsequently hired James Woods to voice Hades. While his full salary is unknown to the public, Nicholson biographer Marc Eliot estimated the actor earned close to $90 million for his role. Similarly, Nicholson requested a percentage of the profits from the 1989 film Batman for playing Joker.
